Almudena de Arteaga (Madrid, 25th July, 1967) graduated in Law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and holds a diploma in Genaeology, Heraldry and Nobility Studies from the Instituto Salazar y Castro. She practised as a lawyer for six years, specialising in Civil and Labour Law. She worked as a documentalist for the historical essays La insigne orden del Toisón de Oro and La orden Real de España. After the success of her first novel, The Princess of Eboli, published in 1997, she left law to dedicate herself fulltime to literature.
