Almudena de Arteaga (Madrid, 25th July, 1967) graduated in Law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and holds a diploma in Genaeology, Heraldry and Nobility Studies from the Instituto Salazar y Castro. She practised as a lawyer for six years, specialising in Civil and Labour Law. She worked as a documentalist for the historical essays La insigne orden del Toisón de Oro and La orden Real de España. After the success of her first novel, The Princess of Eboli, published in 1997, she left law to dedicate herself fulltime to literature. This first novel was followed by ten works of various types. Critically acclaimed as one of the most outstanding contemporary historical novelists, her books have stayed on bestseller lists for more than four months and have been translated into a number of languages. She also contributes to various Spanish newspapers and magazines.
