Lucía loves the way Lucas smiles, the new boy in her class, smiles. She immediately approaches him because she thinks it must be hard to arrive in a new place where everything and everyone is unfamiliar, but as the days go by she notices that Lucas has grown close to Fran and his gang. This surprises her as they are complete hooligans.

They were only in their early twenties at the time. A group of friends who met up in Bar Kronen and enjoyed their youth through sex, alcohol and drugs. Occasionally they flirted with death and there was even the odd casualty. A lot of time has passed. Twenty-five years, to be exact. Now they have jobs, and they don't live too badly, some have married and have families.

After some years without seeing her family, a woman travels to the United States to visit them: her brother, who is married to an American, and her mother. During the 18 days she spends with them, she tries to reconstruct the past and history. To do so, she uses memory and recollections (always tricky), but also an attempt - previously failed - to put some of that history into words.

Verdun, 1916. When the Great War breaks out, Irene Curie wants to be as close to the front as possible. Convinced that she will help save many lives, she sets out to teach radiology to surgeons in field hospitals using portable devices devised by herself and her mother, Marie Curie.
