Paula Merlán was born one Sunday morning in Vigo, Pontevedra. After completing a law degree, her life changed direction and she went into education, and went on to fulfil her dream of teacher training. Her reading encouragement classes that she gave at the school where she grew up put her on the path to writing her own stories, and in 2012 she published her first illustrated collection. The same year she won the Otxarkoaga Children's Books Without Borders contest for her braille book, Do You Know Marit's Magic? published by the Spanish charity for the blind ONCE. She also got a special mention in the Casilda Ordóñez Children's Story competition for the story Virtuous Melodies. She is currently a primary school teacher and has published ten books, some in several languages.
