Joan Fontcuberta (Barcelona, 1955) is a photographer, critic and professor. As well as his prolific photographic work, he has undertaken important roles as essayist, editor and commissioner, responsible for initiatives such as the founding in 1980 of the magazine Photovision and the co-founding in 1982 of Primavera Fotográfica in Barcelona, as well as being artistic director in 1996 of the Arles Internationl Festival of Photography.

He has also studied other things, worked as as a shop assistant, launched and managed companies. He has done selection, consulltancy and other things related to Human Resources and, from an early age, has worn large sizes. He presently has a beard and glasses and is trying to enjoy life.
