After the serious crisis of the 15th century, Barcelona begins to open itself to the new times of the Renaissance. But the commercial development of the city is hampered by the lack of a port offering safe harborage. In 1477, King Juan II asks the Italian specialist, Stassi de Alejandría, to undertake the difficult task of constructing a new safe port. Stassi, a ports engineer and disciple of Leonardo da Vinci, looks to the technical advances of the time for his solution. The curiosity and dedication of an old Barcelona mapmaker, Luís Esquiva, will be a great help in his study of the ancient treatises and their teachings. Years later, the two men involved in the developemnt of Barcelona are joined by another: Marcelo Roqueta, a youth for whom Luis Esquiva's dreams offer an outlet for his adventurous spirit.
