Miranda France

Miranda France is a linguist, translator and writer. She has lived and worked in several Latin American countries and is now based in London. Her works include Bad Times in Buenos Aires, Don Quixote‘s Delusions and The Day Before the Fire. Her translations from Spanish include novels by Claudia Piñeiro, Alberto Manguel, Liliana Heker and Sergio Olguín. She is a Royal Literary Fund Fellow working in the NHS. 

Nick Caistor

Nick Caistor is a British translator from Spanish, Portuguese and French. After living for several years in Latin America, on his return to Britain he began to translate fiction by Latin American and Spanish authors. He has now translated some seventy works of fiction, and in 2006, 2008 and 2015 was awarded the Valle Inclán prize for translation from Spanish. He has been part of the New Spanish Books project since it started.

Gala Sicart Olavide

Gala Sicart Olavide is an editor and translator from English into Spanish and Catalan. She has worked for seven years with the MacLehose Press, specialized in books in translation, where she worked on the book The Sorrows of Mexico (MacLehose Press, 2016). A recent freelancer, Gala reads for various UK and Spanish publishing houses. Recently she has worked on an exhaustive book proposal (Baltasar Garzón’s No to impunity. Debate, 2019) for PEW Literary. 

Several of her translations have been published online. Among others, she has translated for OpenDemocracy, TheConversation and Translators Without Borders.

Passionate about literature, Gala is currently translating All The Lives We Never Lived by Anuradha Roy. 

John Newman

John Newman has had an association with the Newham Bookshop since 1989 and has been their Children’s book buyer since 2002. He has previously been involved in the Bookseller’s Association Children’s Booksellers Group as Chair, World Book Day and the IBBY UK committees. He has judged a number of national children’s book prizes and been part of various Booktrust selection panels. John remains a keen reader and stockist of books in translation.
