Angelina is a 17th century Venetian adolescent who, after the deaths of her parents, is forced to flee her city as her life is in peril. Accompanied by her faithful servant, Pietrolino she travels through Europe, Africa and Asia, awakening to her sense of herself as a woman – and therefore to sex and love – and finding clues to the mystery of her identity. Her adventures lead her to found a city of women and to meet strange people who become fundamentally important in her life. El libro de Angelina is an odd historical novel since it mixes fantasy and mythology with a touch of eroticism. The novel has the additional attraction of 54 illustrations by the author himself. The novel unites historical rigour with artistic creativity and forms of the Italian commedia dell'arte to create a novel which is as entertaining as it is exciting.
