The realization of a new guide about Santiago at the turn of the twenty-first century is a very difficult task. The impulse received over the last 20 years with the nomination as World Heritage Site, the modernization of the network of pilgrimage routes and carrying out Xacobeos sponsored by the autonomous government has promoted the publication of a large body of literature on the art, history and customs of Compostela. Thus, pretending to present the contents of this edition as something new would be absurd.
With this guide we simply aim to provide readers with a quick and convenient way to approach the city they are going to go through, with a series of thematic itineraries to transmit a global idea of the historical monuments and a brief description of the most important elements which make up the rich heritage of Compostela. Anecdotes, customs, history, tastes and smells, anything that allows us to convey the atmosphere and experiences of its people and traditions, become the true protagonists of this edition.
