FERNANDO PÉREZ DEL CASTILLO, the great-great-grandson of a hero of the Spanish-American War who managed to make fun of the Yankees, has inherited from his ancestor an exotic shock of blonde hair, a crippling shyness and an unyielding desire to become a famous actor. And so the protagonist of American Shot begins a passionate adventure that takes him from his gentrified existence in Madrid on a journey across half the world, meeting a whole host of characters in all kinds of situations. On this journey he is accompanied by his alter ego Sergio “voiceover”, who gives him the chance to provide a critical and ironic commentary on many contemporary institutions: traditional family and education, power and wealth relations, social discrimination and the empty and arbitrary nature of success. In the end, the art of good acting that he develops becomes a symbol for the art of living.
