Bia de Medici, illegitimate daughter of Cosme I, Duke of Florence, describes the last days of her life in the pages of a kind of posthumous diary which is found amongst her relics when her tomb is opened several centuries after her death. It is not easy to be a woman in the 16th century. Outside the golden cage of the palace is a seething world full of dangers as well as freedom. Love will enter Bia’s golden cage to wreak total havoc. This historical novel recalls a part of the Italian Renaissance, and tells the story of the court life of one of the most powerful Italian families: a dynasty linked with art, with Machiavellian conspiracies and with death.
