Maruja Sanz is a young girl of humble origins from Valgonzález, a small Castilian town near Segovia. At the end of the sixties she decides to abandon her roots and the life she has led with her parents with the aim of belonging to a different world, one she assumes to be much better, and climb the social ladder. She leaves the town to study law in Madrid and there meets Jordi Ruglons, "The Catalan", a young native of Barcelona, the son of a notary from a good family, who falls in love with her. A subtle novel with surprising narrative twists, El caso Ruglons is an interesting analysis of identity and social class, plus an intriguing detective story in which the author skilfully plays with the light and darker aspects of the human soul.
