Lola, a 39-year-old pediatrician with a promising career ahead of her, has just broken up with her partner. Recently her wish to become a mother has led her to question the meaning of her life. At the doctor's surgery she meets Aminata, a Gambian woman who is younger than her, and mother to four children. An immigrant, illiterate housewife, Aminata is an observant woman who exudes dignity and has started to doubt the principles and traditions she has been raised with, maybe due to the bitter arguments she has with Binta, her eldest daughter. Binta, a rebellious, feisty teenager, grew up in Spain and is rejecting her family's culture, which relegates women to a state of permanent submission. A brilliant student, Binta breaks taboos,dreams of going to university and falls inconveniently in love with a white boy. Three women, three struggles, three rejections and subsequent achievements.
