'La venganza de las cajas' tells the story of Eva, a young journalism student who has just arrived in Madrid from Galicia, and Porto, an old man who lives alone in the Vallecas neighbourhood who Eva looks after in exchange for a room. As soon as she moves in, Eva discovers that Porto is a slovenly, obscene old grouch with an unhealthy obsession with television. His mortal enemy is Morterone, the magnate of the idiot box who, according to Porto, controls the audiences. His obsession reaches the point where Porto swears that Morterone wants to kill him in order to control his audience meter. Eva soon becomes tired of these eccentricities and moves in with friends. However, when she visits him, she discovers that Porto and the audience meter have disappeared, leaving only a box of clues on how to deal with Morterone. Porto isn't as mad as he seemes, and now Eva must help him.
