SYNOPSIS

Fueye tells the story of European immigration to Argentina and all the social, political and cultural development that occurred in the country, thus looking at the history of Argentina from the 20s to the 60s. Tango, prostitution, the Mafia, political hygienism and the people’s socio-political problems are the main issues Jorge González addressed in this graphic novel.
1916. A ship sets sail from Italy and navigates for 35 days. Inside it, hundreds of Italians and other European citizens who will arrive in Buenos Aires. Here begins the story of Antonino Dufour, Italian, son of French and Italian, and his eight-year-old son Horace.
In Buenos Aires they will meet bandoneonist Vicente “Gordo” Rial, who will lead Horacio to know the lives of tango dancers, prostitutes and members of the mafia.
We will follow Horacio’s childhood and youth, his aspirations to leave the lower class and reach a better-off, more powerful level, until his adult life in the 60s.
Fueye is also the history of tango. It's the music of the port, of nostalgia, of gossip, of loneliness and of alienation of immigrants.

Press reviews:

"A story of broken dreams, to the rhythm of tango and with brilliant illustrations and script by Jorge González." Descubrir el Arte magazine No. 120, page 141.

“He came to Spain at the age of 24, is Argentinian, the grandson of Europeans and immigrants. This has been reflected in the spirit of his novel, not just for the autobiographical smell in any work of literature, but because the last part of "Fueye" tells how Jorge crossed the ocean in search of a past that has now become a present. It is him, "there are no shortcuts."” ABC.es 25.11.2008

“Fueye is also the history of tango. The music of the port, of nostalgia, of gossip, of loneliness and of alienation of immigrants.” Si se puede. El periódico de la integración. 12 December 2008

"Fueye by Jorge González, a history of European immigration to Argentina in the early twentieth century." ABCD. December 2008.

"A complex work, both in the structure of the script and in the graphic development, although exultant in terms of visual and literary expressiveness." El Periódico de la Publicidad. November 2008

“A story of Argentinian history. A chronicle about renunciations.” Cinco Días. 23 November 2008

"This ambitious work, a round trip across the Atlantic with the issues of emigration, roots and their loss. González composes a story full of old flavors and smells." Calle 20. Page 83. November 2008.
