Sad Ashes
Mikel Begoña (Sopelana, 1964): Screenwriter. For a number of years he has combined his work as a librarian in Bilbao with his two main interests: history and comic books. In 2004 he launched the Gureerroak Project, with the aim of bringing these two interests together. From his collaboration with the Argentinian illustrator, Ricardo Sendra, was born Mar de Plomo: la batalla de Matxitxako (Lead Sea: the battle of Matxitxako), intended to reflect a naval engagement during the Civil war in the Basque Country. In parallel with this, he has produced scripts which have been successful in a number of Comic prizes. Finally, in 2007, under the name of Gureerroak, he self-edited Mar de Plomo and, in Basque, Berunezko itsasoa. This work took him to several Comical festivals and during the festival in Angouleme, he made contact with various publishers interested in bringing out Sad Ashes.
