Oscar Wilde

Born in 1854 in Dublin (Ireland), Oscar Wilde was a writer, poet and playwright, famous for his brilliance and wit. He entered the prestigious University of Oxford, where he specialised in the study of Greek classics, graduating with the highest honours and distinctions, and even winning several prizes for classical poetry. He combined his studies with travels in Europe and the publication of his poems in various newspapers and magazines. In 1879 he decided to settle in London permanently. There he married, had two children, and began producing his first successful works, the short stories The Canterville Ghost (1887), The Happy Prince, The Nightingale and the Rose (1888); his acclaimed novel The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890), and his plays Salome (1891), Lady Windermere's Fan (1892), and The Importance of Being Ernest (1895).
