It Wasn't Going to Happen to Me
Laura Freixas (Barcelona, 1958) studied at the French lycée in Barcelona. She graduated in Law in 1980 but has always dedicated herself to writing. She first gained recognition with a collection of stories published in 1988: "El asesino en la muñeca" (The Assassin in the Doll). In 1997 she published her first novel, "Último domingo en Londres" (Last Sunday in London), which was followed by "Entre amigas" (Between Friends, 1998), Amor o lo que sea (Love or Whatever it is, 2005), "Adolescencia en Barcelona hacia 1970" (A Teenager in 1970's Barcelona, 2007) , "Los otros son más felices" (Everyone else is Happier, 2011), "Una vida subterránea (diario 1991-1994)" (A Life Underground (a Diary 1991-1994), 2013) and "A mí no me iba a pasar" (It Wasn't Going to Happen to Me, 2019). In parallel to her writing, Freixas has been intensely involved in the study and promotion of literature written by women. She has been a teacher, conference speaker and writer in residence at numerous Universities in Spain and abroad. She belongs to the European Cultural Parliament and presides over the Clásicas y Modernas association for gender equality in culture.
