Joaquim Español is an architect who for many years has combined his practice with teaching architecture in various universities. He has published books on architectural theory, such as 'Arquitectes en el paisatge' ('Architects in the Countryside'), 'El orden frágil de la arquitectura' ('The Fragile Order of Architecture', winner of the premio Architesis, a special doctoral prize), 'Invitación a la arquitectura' ('Invitation to Architecture') and 'Forma y consistencia' ('Form and Consistency'). In the field of poetry, he has published 'Ultralleugers' ('Ultralights', winner of the Carles Riba prize), 'L’arbre de la innocència' ('The Tree of Innocence', winner of first prize at the Juegos Florales de Barcelona), '70 poemes' and 'Nadir i altres nits' ('Nadir and Other Nights'). His dedication to music prompted him to study composition and attend experimental sound laboratories.
