The Other Island
Yoe Suárez was born in La Habana in 1990. His published works include 'Pasajes de la luz' ('Passages of Light') (journalism, 2012) and 'Tú no te llamas desierto' ('Don't Call Yourself Abandoned') (testimonials, 2015), both part of the as yet incomplete Cuba crucis trilogy, and 'Los hijos del diluvio' ('The Children of the Flood') (interviews, 2016). He won the 2013 Premio Nacional de Periodismo Cultural Ruben Martínez Villena. His biography 'Charles en el mosaico' ('Charles in the Mosaic') received a special mention in the 2016 Premio Uneac. As a producer he has won the Premio Documental Memoria Joven awarded at the eleventh Muestra Joven Icaic, and in 2015 he won the Chicuelo grant for short film direction for 'El rostro del mal' ('The Face of Evil'). Upcoming books include 'El regreso de Emmanuel Goldstein' ('The Return of Emamanuel Goldstein') (poetry) and Editorial Samarcanda will be publishing 'Lord Cuba' (essays), and 'Espectros' ('Ghosts') (the first anthology of Cuban narrative journalism).
