On the Threshold of Hades
Osvaldo Reyes began by reading adventure books (Emilio Salgari, Jules Verne), but at the age of eleven he was given Agatha Christie's Sparkling Cyanide. This was his first encounter with the genre of detective fiction and the reason for his desire to explore its roots (Edgar Allan Poe), its classics (Hammett, Chandler…) and its modern developments in the hands of authors of different nationalities, with a special predilection for Central American writers. At school, he began to write his own mysteries and develop characters, but writing was relegated to second place when he decided to study medicine, although he never completely abandoned it. His passion for noir literature never died and now as an obstetrician/ gynaecologist he writes about murder and utilises all his knowledge.
