The captive City. Order and surveillance in the urban space
José Miguel G. Cortés is a doctor of philosophy and professor of art theory in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Valencia. He was the director of Espai d'art Contemporani de Castelló (EACC) from 1998 to 2003. Of note among his recent works include 'Gilbert & George. Escenarios Urbanos' (2007), 'Políticas del espacio. Arquitecture, Género y Control Social' (2006) and 'Hombres de Mármol. Códigos de representación y estrategias de poder de la masculinidad' (2004). He has also commissioned exhibitions on various themes, such as 'Micropolíticas, Arte y Cotidianidad 2001-1968', 'Contra la Arquitectura: La Necesidad de (re)construir la ciudad' and 'Lugares de la memoria'.
