Mediocristan is a Peaceful Land
He was born in Colombia in 1972. After studying literature at university, he worked as a university lecturer until the end of the 1990s, when he moved to Spain. He has published three novels, all very different from each other: Iménez, which won the Premio UPC for Science Fiction, one of the most prestigious in this genre; the political and editorial satire Donde mueren los payasos (Where Clowns Die) and Mediocristán es un país tranquilo (Mediocristán is a Peaceful Land) His most recent book, winner of the Premio de Cuento Gabriel García Márquez 2017, is the story collection Razones para desconfiar de sus vecinos (Reasons to Distrust your Neighbours). His stories are characterised by a style that mixes criticism, humour and surreal situations and a quick and intelligent narrative form. He is an occasional contributor to the magazine El Malpensante and the website, Hermano Cero.
