The No Fairy
Born in Mexico City in 1964, María Gracía Esperón is a versatile, multifaceted and highly cultured author. She has studied Ancient Greek, Latin, Modern Greek, Náhuatl and Arabic and is fluent in English, French and Italian. Her writing is aimed at an audience of children and young adults, but her books are enjoyable for readers of all ages. She studied Social Sciences at the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana and Classics at UNAM. She has worked as a journalist for various newspapers and as a scriptwriter for the radio. She is the grand-niece of the well known composer Manuel Esperón González. In addition to her work as a writer Esperón also works to promote and develop reading both in Mexico and abroad. She has won the 2005 Premio Hispanoamericano de Poesía Infantil, the 2004 Mexican Premio Barco de Vapor and the 2007 Premio Latinoamericano de LIJ Norma Fundalectura. She was included in IBBY's 2016 Honor Roll.
