A History of Philosophy. No Reason for Fear or Trembling
Fernando Savater (in San Sebastián, 1947) has degrees in Philosophy and Ethics. An essayist, journalist, novelist and playwright, he has published more than forty-five books, some of which have been translated into more than a dozen languages. His best known works include La infancia recuperada, Ética para Amador, Diccionario filosófico and El valor de educar.
A prolific philosopher and writer, Fernando Savater is a well known Spanish intellectual. Amongst his vast body of work, the most recent titles are La hermandad de la Buena suerte, Premio Planeta 2008; La aventura de pensar (2008); Borges, la ironía de la metafísica (2008), and Los Diez mandamientos del siglo XXI (2004). His books for children include Ética para Amador.
Fernando Savater has won numerous awards such as the National Prize for Essay, the Anagrama Prize, the Cuco Cerecedo Prize, given by the Association of European Journalists, and was a Planeta Prize finalist with his novel El jardín de las dudas, featuring Voltaire as a central character. As well as the 2008 Premio Planeta, he has received the Premio Concordia Fernando Abril Martorell (2002); the Premio Ortega y Gasset for journalism (2002); the Premio Euskadi de Plata (1999); the Premio Nacional de Ensayo (1982) for La tarea del héroe
