Portbou Nocturne
Jaume Benavente i Cassanyes (Barcelona, 1958) is a Catalan writer. He spent his early childhood in Brazil, to where his parents had emigrated. A graduate in Fine Arts, he has worked as a draughtsman, library assistant, documentary maker and museum curator, among other professions. He presently lives in Barcelona. His work is characterised by a certain nomadism, a sense of the landscape of fiction, and a marked existential and ethical tone. No matter what form he utilises, his work forms an integrated corpus of successive variations on recurrent themes: the search for a place in the world, the junctures and disjunctures of personal history and History, the no man's land between fiction and reality, travel as a journey through a personal geography or an interior exile and melancholy as an organ of knowledge.
