The Peace of the Defeated
Jorge Eduardo Benavides was born in Arequipa, Peru in 1964 and studied Law and Political Sciences in the Universidad Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, in Lima. From 1991 to 2002, he lived on Tenerife, where he founded and directed the fiction workshop Entrelineas. He has contributed to such prestigious literary magazines as Renacimiento and the cultural supplements of Babelia in El País, and Caballo Verde in La Razon, as well as a variety of media organs in his own country. In addition to La paz de los vencidos, he has published the following books: Cuentario y otros relatos (Storybook and Other Stories, 1989), Los años inútiles (The Wasted Years, 2002), El año que rompí contigo (The Year I Broke with You, 2003), La noche de Morgana (Morgana's Night, 2005), Un millón de soles (A Million Suns, 2008), Consignas para escritores (Instructions for Writers, 2012), Un asunto sentimental (A Sentimental Affair, 2013) y El enigma del convento (The Convent Enigma, 2014, winner of the Torrente Ballester prize).
