Escape to Tibet
Endika Urtaran (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1972). His first steps were taken in the Basque mountains, followed by the Pyrenees. As he always got lost, there was nothing for it but to go to Madrid to study Topographical Technical Engineering. After graduating, he worked in Morocco and Indonesia. He then went to Valencia to study Geodesic and Cartographic Engineering. There he met his inseparable fellow adventurers with whom he undertook several expeditions (The Bolivian Andes, Cho-Oyu, Manaslu, Everest, the North Pole, Nanga Parbat). Together they wrote the manual Expediciones (Expeditions, Barrabés, 2003). Since then, he has worked as a cartographer in various institutions: the Institut Cartogràfic Valencià, the Servicio de Cartografía del Gobierno Vasco and the Instituto Geográfico Nacional. Huida al Tíbet is his first novel and was awarded the XIII Desnivel Prize for Literature (2011).
