Maria Barbal
Maria Barbal is a novelist and secondary school teacher. She made her debut in 1985 with the novel Pedra de tartera (Rolling Stone) winner of the Joaquim Ruyra and Joan Creixells prizes, and which became a milestone in Catalan fiction in the eighties. Her later novels, Mel i metzines (Honey and Poison) and Càmfora Camphor), won the Crítica Serra d’Or and the Nacional de Literatura prizes. She has written other novels and collections of short stories which have been translated into Spanish and other languages.
