A graduate of Spanish philology, he has published 2 collections of short stories: "Los oscuros" (Alfaguara, 1990) and "El alma del erizo" (Alfaguara, 2002); the novels "La dulce ira" (Alfaguara, 1995), "La muerte de Tadzio" (Alfaguara, 2000), winner of the Ramón Gómez de la Serna prize, and "Los amores confiados" (Alfaguara, 2005); and a collection of letters, "Amante del sexo busca pareja morbosa" (2002). In 2009 he published "Las manos cortadas" (Alfaguara) and in 2013 'La misma ciudad' (Anagrama). He won the Premio del Tren 2009 Antonio Machado for 'Los años más felices', as well as the 16th Vargas LLosa NH prize for the short story for 'Los dientes del azar'. And the 2013 Llanes de Viajes prize for his book "'Donde el silencio". In 2012 Anagrama brought out "La mujer de sombra", also published in Italy by Guanda.
