Love and Exiles
Born in Tetuán in 1959. At the age of 13, Benarroch emigrated with his parents to Israel and has, since then, lived in Jerusalem. He published his first poems in 1979. During the 80s he was a member of various avant-garde groups and edited the magazine Marot. His first book in Hebrew, entitled Immigrant Ballads came out in 1994. He has also written two books of short stories, various volumes of poetry in Hebrew, English and Spanish and four novels. In Spain, he has published the collection of poetry, Esquina en Tetuán (Corner in Tetuán, Esquío, 2000) and in 2005, the novel Lucena (Lf ediciones). In 2008, Destino brought out the novel En las puertas de Tánger (Approaching Tangiers). The author is also a professional translator. In 2009 he was awarded the Prime minister of Israel’s Prize for his life work.
