Amadís

The Amadis of Gaul begins with the story of the furtive love between King Perión of Gaul and Princesa Elisena of Britain which results in the birth of a child who is abandoned in a boat. The child is brought up by the knight Gandales and investigates his origins through fantastic adventures, protected by the sorceress Urganda, called the Unknown because she never appears with the same face or aspect, and pursued by the wizard Arcaláus, the enchanter. He passes through the enchanted arch of faithful lovers on the  Insula Firme, he defeats the terrible monster Endriago, meets his brother Galaor, and experiences all types of dangerous adventures, all for the love of his beloved Oriana, daughter of King Lisuarte of Great Britain.
