SYNOPSIS

1920. It all began with the murder of the English sailor Jeremiah Perkins in Havoysund and the mysterious packet he sent to Lady Elisabeth Faraday before he died. Or perhaps the story begins before, when some strange relics were discovered that led to Professor Ulises Zarco, director of the geographic society SIGMA, to embark on an incredible adventure on board the Saint Michel. Both Zarco and his assistant have ranged over the world facing all kinds of dangers, just like captain Verne and his crew or the two English ladies who have solicited their help; but none of them are prepared to face the terrifying mystery that surrounds Bowen’s Island, beyond the Arctic Circle.

Prizes and reviews:
EDEBE prize for Children’s literature 2012
‘A captivating homage to Jules Verne, with plenty of ingredients including the turn-of-the-century geographic society, the exploratory scientific voyage, the technical advances of the period, endless vicisitudes and (this is Mallorquí’s own touch) some humourous nuggets’. (Que Leer)
‘Perfectly written, La isla de Bowen is a wonderful novel of adventure and science fiction’. (Diario de Mallorca)
‘Mallorquí’s aim was to pay homage to the great masters of the genre and to transmit similar feelings to those felt by many readers when reading works such as ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’ and ‘The Lost World’. He set himself a highly ambitious task but it must be said that he has emerged victorious. (EL PAIS)
‘Saladrigas enthusiastically points out that the book is not only aimed at young people but can also be enjoyed by adults.’ (El Periódico de Aragón)
