SYNOPSIS

Writers Ola Yevguènieva, Véra-Margarita Abansèrev, Vitali Kroptkin, Aleksandr Vòlkov and Iosif Bergxenko were unbeknownst to me before Anastàssia Maxímovna sent me their short stories. To me, they are part in the fictionalization of fiction. Everything that happens in these stories strives to trace a kind of history of a land and country that could belong entirely to the imagination. After all, couldn’t the whole history of Russia during the last Century and a half be thought of as a grandiose fable? A country so big that it even seems unlikely to exist and populated by sagas of unfathomable proportion and has experienced and provoked earthquakes whose magnitude has been felt around the globe.

Press reviews:

“The most difficult classifiable books are those that leave you speechless on a chair with an invisible interjection at your face. After reading Russian Tales by Francesc Serés twice and with renewed admiration, I write these lines after weeks without finding some words that do justice to its splendour…” Manel Ollé, L’Avenç

“The Russian Tales by Francesc Serés cover the traditional fables but also stories about aerial low cost lines, where the author imitates Russian writers (like Pushkin, Gogol, Chejov, Afanassiev, Bulgakov) and classical writers like Kafka, Salinger and Jane Austen… All these stories pay homage to writers that teach you to read and also to live”. Rosa Maria Piñol, El Periódico
